Microsoft's Intune platform to improve user experience

A local government authority in the UK deploys Microsoft Intune to manage all phones (Windows, Android and iOS) and ensure employees use the latest technology to access data on-the-go

London’s local government authority, the Ealing Council, moved its mobile device management from the existing System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) solution to Intune on Azure, Microsoft’s recommended MDM solution, using Microland’s expertise. To do this, Microland set up an off shore team of skilled resources with experience on the Intune platform. The engagement resulted in the council improving its compliance posture, user experience and its ability to deploy Android and iOS mobile devices.

Description

Client

The Ealing Council is a local government authority that serves London's third largest borough covering part of West London and a part of North West London. The council provides different services, from disposing of abandoned cars to running a zoo. It has 70+ sites managed by 3,000+ employees.

Business Goal

The Ealing Council has 1,200+ Windows 10 phone devices which were managed centrally using the System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) MDM solution. Windows 10 phones are in the process of being phased out by Microsoft. However, the council needed to continue providing feature support, device compliance, data integrity and managed services to its Windows 10 device users. Intune on Azure was the recommended MDM solution for the client’s stated requirements.

Microland Solution

Microland first set up an off shore team of skilled resources with experience on the Intune platform. The execution approach for mixed authority and deploying MDM authority with Intune was shared with the client. This was followed by setting up the Microsoft Intune platform. The solution included:

  • Configuring mixed authority with Intune
  • Testing of pilot with mixed authority
  • Migration of existing MDM solution from SCCM to standalone Intune
  • Report management through Intune
  • Resolving technical issues/requirement with Intune
  • Stabilizing Windows phone devices
  • Setting up Intune to support Android and iOS devices

Business Outcomes

Microland migrated the client to the latest Microsoft Intune technology. Existing policies and configurations were improved using best practices and applied, ensuring that the Windows 10 phones could continue to be used by employees along with Android and iOS devices. This resulted in:

  • Improved compliance with access to data on secure phones
  • Enhanced user experience (scores of 5/5)
  • Improved productivity leveraging the latest Microsoft Intune technology
